The Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was the guest speaker for the 43rd Tinker Community Dining Out held at the Tinker Club, April 1.

Prior to the dining out, General Paul J. Selva, spent the afternoon engaged with Team Tinker leadership on the vital missions performed by Air Force Sustainment Center and the Navy's Strategic Communications Wing One, with special focus on contributions to the nation's strategic nuclear deterrence.

"What I saw today in every single person I met and what I see tonight in the eyes of every person I see is commitment; commitment to making this place better, commitment to making our nation better and commitment to guaranteeing that we are always free," General Selva told more than 200 base and community leaders in attendance.

It was this commitment to the mission by the community, the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex and all of Team Tinker that General Selva referenced when he said: "Now the tanker fleet and bomber fleet are more than just the airplanes. They're part of the nuclear arsenal and nuclear deterrent that makes us one of the world's great powers. And it keeps us on the center stage of any great power competition because it's part of a broad network that's also represented right here at Tinker Air Force Base; Strat Comm Wing One and their nuclear command and control mission, the B-52 and the capability it brings to this nation as part of our nuclear triad which is very important to our status in this world. It brings stability to what would otherwise be an unstable place. You do that every single day."

In his remarks General Selva noted the importance of community support to Team Tinker from the beginning of the base itself, "This nation owes you a debt of gratitude for what you assumed to be the right thing to do. But it's bigger than that, you opened your hearts to our families, your communities to our military; you made this a great place to live. And for that I want to say thank you."
The Tinker Community Dining Out, a variation on the traditional military dining-out custom, allows military and civilian leaders and supporters to engage and understand each other in a formal, yet fun atmosphere.
