Speaking to community and business leaders, the Air Force Sustainment Center's vice commander discussed the center's role in delivering combat power for America during a luncheon last week.

Brig. Gen. Tom Miller told a crowd of about 50 aerospace and defense partners at the Tinker Business and Industrial Park monthly luncheon June 15 in Midwest City that the AFSC is "a Numbered Air Force with a world-wide mission comprised of three air logistics complexes, three air base wings and two supply chain wings that are interconnected across multiple times zones."

The general highlighted how this interconnected team of approximately 42,000 uniformed and civilian Airmen provide capabilities for the effects that are needed by Joint Force Commanders.

"While the JFC may not have direct visibility on the orchestration required to provide the combat capability at the time it is needed, they have grown to count on it," he told the attentive group. "AFSC members at all operating locations play a vital role in our nation's readiness."

General Miller went on to say providing combat power is a "team sport" across organizations and often in partnership between government and industry.

"The Air Force relies on a strong sustainment industrial base to ensure the readiness of our newly fielded and legacy weapon systems, we are counting on you to deliver" he said.

After an overview of the mission AFSC is charged with, General Miller illustrated the "team sport" concept with a vignette about how all the players come together for a close air support mission to support a Joint Terminal Air Controller in a combat operation.

In the example he described, all three air logistics complexes played a role with one of them performing depot maintenance on the aircraft and the other two overhauling and repairing components for it. AFSC's two supply chain wings each played a vital role in supportability as did two out of the three air base wings all in a single example of combat power.

General Miller explained the AFSC has a direct impact on the availability and effectiveness on weapon systems throughout the globe all because of the professionalism and dedication of a great team.

The Tinker Business and Industrial Park was established 31 years ago specifically to support Tinker Air Force Base, the state's largest single-site employer.

The sector-specific office park was designed for companies who do business in aviation or aerospace, information technology, environmental sciences, unmanned or autonomous aerospace systems, and advanced manufacturing.

The general ended the luncheon by thanking the TBIP participants for their engagement, patriotism and interest in the AFSC and the nation.
