AFSC focuses on generating Airpower for America Published July 19, 2012 Tinker AFB Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Eying its vision to "Sustain Weapon System Readiness to generate Airpower for America," the Air Force Sustainment Center will provide integrated weapons system maintenance and support for the Air Force. Commanded by Lieutenant General Bruce Litchfield, the AFSC incorporates a headquarters element, three air logistics complexes, three air base wings, two supply chain management wings and multiple remote operating locations incorporating more than 32,000 military and civilian personnel. The center also oversees installation support to more than 75,000 personnel working in 141 associate units at the three AFSC bases. The bases also support a combined total of more than 125,000 military retirees and their families. The AFSC command staff includes several specialized directorates which will partner with the eight AFSC wings and other AFMC center staffs to coordinate and direct Air Force sustainment operations. The center-level staff, including those working at remote Operating Locations, totals 1,283 military and civilian personnel. The staff is supported by an additional 28 contractor personnel. Following the AFSC activation here on July 10, the three maintenance wings began their transition to air logistics complexes. The 76th Maintenance Wing at Tinker transitioned on July 10, while the 309th Maintenance Wing at Hill AFB, Utah, transitioned on July 12 and the 402nd Maintenance Wing at Robins AFB, Ga., transitioned on Tuesday. The air base wings at these installations aligned under the AFSC at the same time. The 448th Supply Chain Management Wing here and 635th Supply Chain Operations Wing at Scott AFB, Ill., were aligned under the AFSC on July 11. The economic impacts of the three AFSC bases combine for more than 70,000 jobs with a total payroll of $4.4 billion along with $2.2 billion in locally awarded contracts. As a result, approximately 106,000 jobs would have been created in the local economies. AFSC's portfolio tops $16 Billion annually. Tinker AFB At Tinker, the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex repairs and maintains a variety of bombers and refueling aircraft in addition to overseeing supply chain management. It is responsible for depot-level repair on the B-1, B-52, KC-135, E-3, E-6 as well as engine maintenance on a variety of engines from the workhorse TF33 to the state-of-the-art, vector thrust F119 engines. The 448th Supply Chain Management Wing at Tinker provides enterprise-wide planning and execution for depot line repairable and consumables for materiel, maintenance and distribution, aircraft structural and intercontinental ballistic missile electronics/communication commodities management, and engineering. It is one of only two "virtual wings" in the USAF. The wing remotely manages two groups; the 638th Supply Chain Management Group at Robins AFB, and the 748th Supply Chain Management Group at Hill AFB. It also manages the 848 Supply Chain Management Group located at Tinker AFB and the 948th Supply Chain Management Group located across the Enterprise at Robins, Hill, Tinker, and Wright Patterson AFBs. The 72nd Air Base Wing provides mission support, civil engineering, medical, airfield operations, command post, explosive ordnance disposal, public affairs, equal opportunity and alternate dispute resolution and financial management to more than 26,000 active duty military, Guard and Reserve components, civilians and family members. In addition to providing direct support to the AFSC staff, the air logistics complex and the supply chain management wing here, the air base wing also supports more than 45 associate units, as well as 80,000 retired military and their family members. Hill AFB At Hill, the Ogden Air Logistics Complex provides logistics, support, maintenance, distribution and engineering management for the F-16, C-130, A-10, F-22 and 27 other actively flying, mature and proven weapon systems, including the Minuteman III ICBM. The complex is the leading provider of aircraft landing gear, pneudraulics, secondary power systems, composites, software, rocket motors, small missiles, air munitions and guided bombs, and serves as the DOD aircraft maintenance and regeneration at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona. The 75th Air Base Wing at Hill supports the Utah Test and Training Range, mission support, civil engineering, medical, information technology, airfield operations, command post, explosive ordnance disposal, public affairs, and financial management and serves as the ammunition control point for the Air Force. The wing supports 22,000 active duty military, Guard and Reserve components, and civilians in more than 50 associate units. Amongst these associate units is Air Combat Command's 388th Fighter Wing, one of the most decorated combat-ready units in AF history; and the 419th Fighter Wing, the first Air Force Reserve Command F-16 wing. In addition the 75th ABW also supports more than 40,000 retired military and their family members. Robins AFB At Robins, the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex maintains and sustains more than 200 weapons systems and provides integrated logistics support to fighter, airlift, reconnaissance, special operations, and combat search and rescue aircraft. The complex also conducts maintenance on a variety of DOD avionics and electronic warfare systems. The 78th Air Base Wing provides mission support, civil engineering, medical, airfield operations, command post, explosive ordnance disposal, public affairs, and financial management to more than 25,000 active duty military, Guard and Reserve components, civilians and family members. The wing supports more than 25,000 retired military and their family members. Scott AFB The 635th Supply Chain Operations Wing at Scott AFB, Ill. The 635th provides customer focused, global sustainment support for over 240 retail supply activities, 4,700 aircraft and $1.6 million in vehicle and support equipment assets. The wing manages two groups, the 635th Supply Chain Operations Group also at Scott, and the 735th Supply Chain Operations Group at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va.
