AFSC-managed contract offers solutions for critical labor needs

A new contract is offering a way to fill critical labor gaps not only in the Air Force Sustainment Center, but throughout the Department of War.  This contract for Labor Augmentation Support Requirements gives government customers a pre-vetted, streamlined pathway to secure critical technical labor.

Rather than initiating a lengthy procurement process from scratch, mission commanders can now leverage LASR to issue task orders for weapon system sustainment, modification, and readiness. Contractors are assigned specific project workloads to own and execute, ensuring independent performance tracking and clear accountability. The contract is managed by AFSC Contracting Directorate’s Contract Field Team.

“For 75 years, the Contract Field Team has put skilled support exactly where the warfighter needs it,” said Paul Archer, CFT Program Office Director.  “LASR carries that mission forward, giving our customers fast, flexible access to a vetted industry base for the next decade.”

The DoW awarded positions on the potential 10-year, $7 billion ceiling Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity contract to 23 companies earlier this year.  

Typical mission support includes:

• Organizational, intermediate, and/or Depot levels of maintenance, modifications, inspections, & repair for DoW and other federal agencies
• Back-shop component repair and logistics support

To maximize industry innovation, competition, and specialized growth, the contract was structured across two distinct vendor categories to compete for individual task orders:

• Full and Open Pool (9 Contractors): Enables the government to leverage the massive scale, reach, and advanced technological capabilities of major industry partners.
• Small Business Pool (14 Contractors): Ensures comprehensive, agile support for the LASR initiative while providing critical, dedicated opportunities for small business participation.

The award coincides with an historic milestone for the Contract Field Team, which is celebrating 75 years of support in 2026.  Established in 1951, the CFT program continues its legacy of providing vital maintenance capabilities to the warfighter through this modern LASR contract.
