HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Hill AFB’s Mountain View Inn will soon follow other Air Force lodging facilities in allowing guests to use an after-hours, self-serve check-in system.
Beginning Nov. 1, people who plan to check into lodging between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. will receive a customized code to a locker, similar to a post office box.
Located outside the lodging office, the locker will contain everything they need for their stay such as their room key, a registration card and a map with directions to their room.
Melissa Edwards, lodging manager at Mountain View Inn, said the decision to operate at night without a guest services representative at the front desk was made after seeing a decline over the past year in late-night guest check-ins.
The current check-in time begins at 2 p.m. with the majority of guests checking-in before 9 p.m.
“When our service representatives take reservations after Nov. 1, they will inform our guests that if they will be arriving after 10 p.m., our office will be closed upon their arrival, and then they explain the self-service checking process,” Edwards said.
Lodging representatives will call all guests the day of their arrival to inform them that if they arrive after 10 p.m. their needed information will be in their assigned locker and then give them the combination to the locker.
“Should the guest have issues opening their assigned locker, an after-hours phone number is available to call and a representative will walk them through the steps,” Edwards said. “If there is still an issue, the representative who is on-call that night will come to lodging and help the guest.”
Edwards said other military lodging locations are successfully using the self-serve check-in process and foresees no issues implementing it at Hill.
