Here is this week’s Fun Friday Thought. Adapted from How Great is Our God devotional series.
Proverbs 17:22 “A happy heart is like good medicine.”
Laughter is found in any culture and can widely be interpreted in any language. Laughter is a skill that you are born with. You don't learn how to laugh. Isn't interesting that even babies begin laughing at around the 3 month mark, which is well before they ever learn to say mama or dad.
Real laughter just happens without us having to think about it. Laughter also sparks others around you to laugh. It's “funny” how that works. Have you ever simply laughed in front of a baby, child, or another adult? Chances are, especially with babies, that they too soon started to laugh with you. Some claim that laughter is one of the best forms of medicine. While the jury is still out on that with our scientist, we do know that laughter is fun, makes you feel good, and helps to foster relationships.
Laughter is a gift from God. In a lot of ways it can heal a broken heart and give us joy in the midst of sorrow. God even tells us in Ecclesiastes 3 that there is time to laugh:
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;"
As you go out this weekend, take time to laugh. Laugh with someone (not at them). Again, laughter is a gift and it is meant to be shared. Someone around you might be having a tough day, week, or month and a good funny story might be the medicine they need to laugh their way through the difficult times. So this weekend take time to laugh. Make it a deep belly laugh. Let your laughter be carefree and contagious!
Fun Fact: You can't tickle yourself. Why? Your ability to laugh when tickled is due impart by the fact that you are surprised. So, when you try to tickle yourself, your brain knows what is happening already.
Have a great weekend!
