Legal office offers 2021 tax preparation alternatives

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Due to extenuating circumstances, Hill Air Force Base has suspended tax center services this tax season. The Hill AFB Legal Office has a suggested a number of other alternatives for tax preparation and filing.

Military OneSource

• Free “do-it-yourself” (DIY) tax preparation and filing software
• Free live consultation by phone or chat
• Limited to service members and family
• MilTax software will be available Jan. 24

IRS Free File

• Free DIY online tax preparation and filing options
• Commercial vendors partnering with the Internal Revenue Service
• Limited to those with annual gross income (AGI) under $73,000
• Website is now open

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/free-tax-return-preparation-for-qualifying-taxpayers
• Free basic tax return preparation and filing
• Some sites may have income limits for eligibility (possibly as low as $57,000 AGI)
• Preparers in Davis County and Weber County sites have not necessarily been certified for military returns
• Full list of sites participating in Davis and Weber Counties is pending

Paid Professionals
• Certified public accountants, enrolled agents, attorneys, and many others
• Most tax return preparers provide outstanding and professional tax service
